Alaskan born and bred, Chris earned bachelor’s degrees in both psychology and sociology, but his fascination with cinema and filmmaking instead led him to the world of visual effects. Now a veteran of the film industry, Chris’s impressive résumé includes compositing and VFX supervision on numerous films and TV shows, including 12 Years A Slave, Doctor Strange, The Greatest Showman, and Better Call Saul, among others.
A gifted storyteller, Chris has also directed many music videos and led visual effects teams for U2, Chris Cornell, New Kids on the Block, and Paramore, just to name a few.

Prior to his work in film, Jon spent ten years in venture capital and tech.  Southbox Entertainment is an independent motion picture and television production company specializing in finance, co-finance, and development. With offices in both Los Angeles, CA and Atlanta, GA, Southbox was originally founded in 2017 in Philadelphia, PA when Founder and CEO Jon Gosier exited 10 years in tech and venture capital.

Sebastian Alvarado, author of The Science of Marvel and faculty member at Queens College City University of New York and CEO of Thwacke Consulting, a science consulting firm for the entertainment sector.

With a decade of consulting for various intellectual properties, he will share approaches to communicate science in various forms of media ranging from television, film, and video games. He will share strategies that creatives can use in carrying out their research and how to get the most out an"expert" in the field. More specifically, he will discuss designing plausibility in "hard" sci-fi by crafting fiction within the gaps of scientific zeitgeist.

Also joining the Women in Sci-fi panel is, AMANDA WEISS. She will discuss how new works by female Asian and Asian American authors articulate new visions of a transnational Asian future.

Amanda Weiss is Assistant Professor of Japanese Studies at Georgia Institute of Technology and a graduate of Clarion Workshop.  Her current research project is on collective memory in Chinese and Japanese media productions.

Celebrating Octavia E. Butler's re-issue of one of her most popular works, Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents.
